Academic resources and facilities

To enrich the learning experience, Columbia College offers the following resources and facilities:

Career Services Center

The Career Center offers students and alumni a broad range of services, resources and programs designed to prepare them to successfully achieve their personal and career objectives.

The Elizabeth Toomey Seabrook Writing Center & Tutoring Services

The Elizabeth Toomey Seabrook Writing Center provides free, in-person support services to help students develop and maintain writing skills for academic success. Assistance is given with a range of skills, including idea and thesis development, essay organization, revising and editing, and citation styles.

In-person tutoring services are also available for various academic disciplines, such as accounting and finance, computer information systems, and the sciences. Students enrolled in tutor-supported courses can walk-in for help understanding concepts, working problems and preparing for exams and quizzes.

The Ether L. Bruce Math Center

The Ether L. Bruce Math Center provides free, in-person educational support to students enrolled in Columbia College mathematics courses. Drop-in for tutoring in all mathematics courses numbered below 300.

Fishman Center for Entrepreneurship

Through experiential learning based on curriculum, internships, mentoring, and seed capital for start-ups, the Steven and Barbara Fishman Center for Entrepreneurship assists Columbia College students and faculty by identifying and securing resources to create new businesses or improve existing ones.

Technology Services Help Desk

The computer help desk supports the campus in computer and network use. It provides a single point of contact for questions concerning telephone service, e-mail and connecting computers to the campus network.

Computer lab

The computer lab offers access to computers, network and software technology to individual students. It is also the home of the college's computer help-desk operation.

Cooperative agreement

Columbia College has entered into a cooperative cross-enrollment agreement with the University of Missouri-Columbia and Stephens College. A full-time student may take undergraduate courses at these institutions if the desired course is not offered during the semester at Columbia College. The classes taken at the University or Stephens College will be added to the semester hours at Columbia College.

Individual academic advising

Full-time faculty, serving as academic advisors, assist students in creating a personally relevant plan for educational, career and life fulfillment.

Stafford Library

The library's collection of materials supports the curriculum of Columbia College with over 80,000 items (books, videos, CDs, etc.) and more than 600 magazine, journal, and newspaper titles in paper and on microfilm. Arthur, the library's catalog, is available on the Internet. The library classroom is used for group study and library instruction.

Multiple online databases are available to search for full-text or indexed articles from professional journals, legal publications, newspapers and magazines. Students are able to access the databases from off campus by using Columbia College's proxy server.

Student Support Services

The Student Support Services office works to ensure the success of at-risk students through tutoring assistance, workshops, career and graduate school site visits, cultural activities and personal and financial counseling. Under federal guidelines, students who are low-income, first generation or disabled qualify for the free services.
